CONTEXT

EchoKids is an online music education platform that connects children with engaging instrument and music theory lessons designed to prioritize learning, growth, and joyAs the platform grew, the team identified a need to better engage younger learners and help them track progress in a way that felt motivating and fun. This led to the creation of EchoKids Games, a gamified learning experience designed to complement lessons through play.

OVERVIEW

EchoKids Games is an interactive dashboard experience that allows children to learn musical concepts through mini-games, achievements, and visual progression. The product introduces gamification as a way to reinforce learning while making progress visible and rewarding.

PROBELM

While EchoKids lessons were effective, younger students struggled to stay engaged outside of live instruction. Progress tracking felt abstract, and learning lacked a sense of reward.

We identified three core challenges:

  • Difficulty maintaining long-term engagement
  • Limited visibility into progress and milestones
  • A visual experience that did not fully resonate with young learners

UNDERSTANDING OUR AUDIENCE

EchoKids Games was designed for young learners who are motivated by play, visual feedback, and a sense of achievement. These users respond strongly to color, characters, and rewards, and are more likely to stay engaged when progress feels tangible.

Parents and mentors also needed a clear way to understand growth, making it important that the experience balanced playfulness with structure. Designing for both audiences meant creating an interface that felt exciting and intuitive for kids, while remaining clear and purposeful for adults.

VISUAL IDENTITY + BRANDING

The introduction of EchoKids Games created an opportunity to rethink how branding could support learning.

The existing EchoKids brand was friendly and educational, but the games experience required a more expressive visual language to spark curiosity and excitement. The goal of the rebrand was to create an identity that felt energetic, playful, and welcoming to young learners.

Color played a central role in shaping the EchoKids Games identity. I introduced a bright, varied palette to help differentiate game types, achievements, and progress states.

I also utilized EchoKids’ characters and avatars to create a stronger emotional connection with users and make progress feel rewarding. As players advanced through levels, they unlocked new avatars, reinforcing a sense of ownership and accomplishment tied directly to learning.

FINAL PRODUCT

The final EchoKids Games experience allows users to:

  • View progress and achievements through a personalized dashboard
  • Play musical mini-games tied to learning objectives
  • Unlock avatars and rewards as they advance
  • Track rankings and milestones in a friendly, low-pressure way

REFLECTIONS + NEXT STEPS

Working on EchoKids Games reinforced the importance of designing for emotional engagement alongside usability. This project challenged me to think about branding not as decoration, but as a functional tool that supports motivation, learning, and confidence.

Future iterations could expand game offerings, introduce adaptive difficulty, and further personalize learning paths. Designing EchoKids Games deepened my interest in creating playful, meaningful experiences that help users grow through joy.
